SANTA CLARA, Calif. - (June 18, 2001) - Solid Data Systems and GTSI® Corp. (Nasdaq: GTSI) today announced a strategic agreement that expands GTSI's storage offering to include Solid Data's solid-state disk solutions to GTSI's government customers through GTSI's NASA's SEWP (Scientific, Engineering and Workstation Procurement) II and NIH ECS -II (Electronic Computer Store) contacts. GTSI will carry Solid Data's complete line of award-winning products to help address federal customers' growing demand for increased system performance through the addition of solid-state disk technology. Solid Data's storage appliances substantially accelerate the processing time in transaction-intensive applications. This greatly improves performance for critical real-time applications such as e-business databases, messaging, email, financial applications, and batch processing.
"With the amount of information government agencies need to process, storage is now the fastest growing segment of the federal information technology market," said Jim Dunn, GTSI's Vice President of Technology Solutions. "We offer our customers a wide range of storage solutions to meet their needs and to help them do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. Solid Data's line of products, combined with GTSI's total storage solutions, offer our customers a faster way to process and access important information."
"As more business is conducted over the Internet, U.S. government agencies have some of the world's most demanding information storage requirements," said Gene Bowles, CEO of Solid Data Systems. "Our products add substantial value to the storage solutions that GTSI brings to its customers because we greatly reduce the processing time of transaction-intensive applications. While our products have received wide acceptance in both the defense and civilian agencies, teaming with GTSI will allow us to further expand our reach and assist federal agencies with their mission-critical information requirements. We know GTSI's reputation in the federal market and are proud to be among its family of providers."
Solid Data's Products Multiply Server Performance
File caching is an architectural solution that is deployed when a customers'
application server is wasting lots of processing cycles waiting for information
to be retrieved from storage. File caching uses memory chips, which are 1000
times faster than mechanical rotating disk storage, so it can deliver the
required performance where cached RAID storage cannot. Solid-state disks are a
complementary technology to cached RAID. Customers typically move a subset of
their files, called "hot files", to the solid-state disk appliance. These hot files
usually comprise less than five percent of an application's data but account
for more than 50 percent of the I/O wait. By adding solid-state disk as
an architectural solution, customers can increase throughput of an application
server by 200 to 800 percent.
